2024 marked a landmark year for our ALMA program — African Lives Matter Absolutely — a initiative born from our commitment to shine a light on the profound suffering of communities across Africa whose struggles too often go unnoticed by the wider world.
Coloring the World Four Turkish volunteers — two of them doctors — alongside two Hungarian volunteers and a team of local volunteers and artists came together to launch the Coloring the World project across Africa. This initiative brings joy and healing to children battling long-term illnesses by transforming bare hospital wards into vibrant, child-friendly spaces through colorful murals and artwork. Research has shown that bright, cheerful environments can positively influence a child's well-being, outlook, and cognitive development. In Uganda, we brought color and hope to two hospitals and one village school.
Medical Outreach We also conducted a medical camp near the Congolese border in western Uganda, where over 160 patients received free medical treatment and 54 Ugandans benefited from free dental check-ups — many for the first time in their lives.
In 2025, we partnered with Global Medical Foundation Australia to hold a large-scale medical camp in northwestern Uganda, extending vital healthcare to some of the region's most underserved communities. That same year, we launched our Seeds Program, providing seeds and cultivation support to vulnerable refugee families — empowering them to grow their own food and take a step toward self-sufficiency.
Aid to sub- Saharan Africa
AFRICAN LIVES MATTER!
Since 2018, Safe Haven for Refugees has conducted annual humanitarian missions to sub-Saharan Africa, where we first held our first medical camp in 2018 in response to urgent local needs on the South Sudan Ugandan border. In this area, the majority of residents lack access to even basic healthcare services.
We deliver support through humanitarian outreach, medical assistance, and refugee aid to vulnerable communities. These efforts focus on improving health outcomes and quality of life for those living in severely resource-limited environments.
